History
Several thousand years ago, people in ancient Egypt used a beverage known as beer. At the same time, a drink with similar properties—though made from millet—became popular among African tribes. Gradually, this alcoholic beverage spread throughout the world. Before the Iranian Revolution, the alcoholic type of malt beverage (māʾ al-shaʿīr) was produced in Iran, which naturally contained the harmful effects of alcohol. Fortunately, today, with changes in production systems, non-alcoholic malt beverages have entered the market, providing a rich source of various vitamins.
